Organization Description:

The mission of the Foundation for Russian American Economic Cooperation (FRAEC) is to further economic and community ties between its U.S. and Russian constituents. Founded in 1989, FRAEC serves as a hub connecting grassroots organizations, the private sector, regional officials and federal decision makers involved with U.S.-Russian economic and community relations. FRAEC has a strong reputation for finding effective solutions to complex challenges. FRAEC has grown a team with wide-ranging expertise, and FRAEC’s board and membership includes many individuals and organizations on the forefront of working with Russia. FRAEC's current priorities include: - Improving understanding through enhanced U.S.-Russian dialogue and engagements involving citizens and the public and private sectors; - Supporting business relations and policy dialogue to accelerate bilateral trade and investment and strengthen private sesctor development in Russia; and - Building stronger communities and improving the quality of life in Russia's regions through improved social and economic infrastructure and networks serving the needs of its citizens.

Example Project:

One example of our work is our U.S.-RFE Municipal Partnership program funded by USAID. The program promotes local self-governance in the Russian Far East (RFE) to make local government more responsive to the needs and priorities of citizens. By supporting training programs, continuing education opportunities, and joint municipal partnership projects between cities in the states of Washington and Alaska and the RFE, the program supports development and dissemination of proven social and economic development strategies and improves public administration skills among government administrators in the RFE.
