Organization Description:

Our mission is to provide health respite and cross cultural education in the United States for the child victims of the 1986 Chernobyl Nuclear Accident. Providing additional resources (both financial and physical) for the participating children and their families in the country of Belarus to enable them to maintain their newly improved health, increase their knowledge of the world and develop options for the future is a natural byproduct of our growing relationship with these children and their families.

Example Project:

Over the last 5 years, For the Children of the World has hosted approximately 225 Belarussian children in the Pacific Northwest. In that time, each child gained an average of 4 lbs per summer visit (6 weeks) and grew about 2 inches in height. Medical screening identified those who needed follow up care for thyroid abnormalities, vision problems, other medical and nutritional issues. An average of 4 hours per child of dental care per year was donated by area providers.
