THE OPPORTUNITY: Washington state is deeply connected to the global economy through trade, a diverse citizenry, multinational businesses and entrepreneurial philanthropic leadership. What is less well-known is that Washington boasts a large number of nonprofit organizations, businesses and academic institutions actively engaged in improving the economic, social and environmental conditions of the world’s poorest people. Yet because institutional affiliations create natural silos among practitioners, the people and organizations dedicated to global development lack the mechanisms to benefit from the comparative advantage they share by being co-located in the state of Washington. The Global State of Washington Initiative has been established to fulfill this need. It will do so by bringing together the sector’s diverse constituents and acting as a catalyst for the innovation and synergy that come from a shared mission of improving the lives of the world’s poor. 

OUR MISSION: Global Washington supports and promotes the global development sector in Washington state. Comprised of nonprofit organizations, large corporations, small businesses and both public and private academic institutions, the sector shares the goal of building a better world.

OUR VISION: Washington state will be a recognized center of influential and innovative global development activity where diverse groups work collectively to build a world where opportunities are available for all people.
